I first came across The Jim Jones Revue in 2009, when they played at the Open House Festival with Andrew Weatherall supporting. I hadn’t heard them but reading about them was enough to make me want to go and see them so I bought tickets and was so glad that I did. That night introduced me to one of the best frontmen I have ever seen, and to some great music which is regularly played (quite loudly) in our house.

Hansel of Film 2012

Last night my Dad, brother and I attended a great event in the Black Box, hosted by the Belfast Film Festival. The event was a showcase of short films made by the public that were being screened as part of the Hansel of Film – Shetland to Southampton and Back project, which is a relay of screenings of which has visited almost 20 venues throughout the UK and will finish up in Scotland this Saturday. A runner has been chosen to transport each set of films to the different  places, by various modes of transport, and the whole thing is part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad – the same crowd that funded Land of Giants.

A Wedding Less Ordinary

So, it went a bit like this. Girl meets boy in 2000, in a Belfast den of debauchery known as Vicos. Girl and boy hit it off and are soon joined at the hip. He is tall, dark, handsome and into football. She is shorter, loves films and has had many hair colours. They both love music. Fast forward to October 2011. They are living in their beautiful house and have a completely awesome son called Rudy, who was born on 3rd June 2011. On the girls 31st birthday an engagement ring is produced and they decide to make this thing offical, get hitched and throw in a naming ceremony for Rudy for good measure. They wanted a big party, a relaxed atmosphere and all the people they love celebrating with them and having a fabulous time.

And that is exactly what we got on June 9th, 2012.
