Well..that was an interesting year!

December 23, 2012

Since we are coming to the end of 2012 I thought I would re-enter the blogging world after a short break, to say a few words about this year. The year started with the beautiful wedding of my close friend Vicky, and her husband, Darren and is ending on a quieter note but is no less happy.

There have been many ups and downs this year and there has been a lot to celebrate – our fabulous wedding, Rudy’s 1st birthday and my (long awaited) graduation. There have been lovely family trips to Antibes, Rathmullan and and Portmarnock and lots of great days out with family and friends. Time spent with Rudy just gets better and better (as gushed about in my last post!) and life, for the most part, has been fantastic.

While all this good stuff has been going on there have been a few hiccups along the way. The situation in Belfast regarding the flag and the protests which threatened the Christmas spirit of our lovely city is one. I don’t want to bring up kids here if there is any chance that they will see the same things I saw or go through what I did when I was a child, but hopefully things will calm down soon and sense will prevail.

The other is a situation which I can’t divulge too much about right now but has shown me exactly how, despite if you are totally in the right and this has been proven beyond a doubt, unfortunately incompetence and idiocy reigns. But on the flip side it’s shown people for their true colours. I’ve been supported through this by amazing friends and family with unwavering backbone, courage and loyalty, but felt let down (but unsurprised) by those few who would sooner bury their heads in the sand than voice an opinion.

Christmas 2012 will be spent with those we love, and experiencing the proper joy of Christmas with a toddler who is obsessed with Santa (he calls him Allah!) and who is getting very good at opening presents. We will see in the New Year with close friends and celebrate for the year that lies ahead of them, and us. Mr. G-S and l will spend the first full night of January at the Slieve Donard hotel for a treat away and relish a lie-in. I can’t wait.

I can feel that next year will be one of exciting opportunities, new experiences and more general enjoyment of life. There is so much to look forward to – including many friends having babies and more family weddings. I’ll get back to more regular blogging so I’ll be posting again soon.

In the meantime, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year x
